At least two people were killed and 15 others injured in a road accident in Kharulia area under Sadar upazila of the district on Tuesday afternoon.
Police said the accident occurred when a microbus collided head-on with a passenger bus of ‘Shymoli Paribahan,’ leaving two passengers of the microbus dead on the spot.
The deceased were identified as Jafar Alam, 50, former chairman of Rashidnagar union parishad of the upazila and Nuruzzaman, 60, hailed from Purbaghonarpara area under Bharuakhali union of the district.
The injured were admitted to the local hospitals and clinics.
Being informed, a team of police rushed to the spot and took part in the rescue operation, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sadar thana Mahfuzur Rahman told BSS adding that the traffic movement became normal within a short time.
