A covered-van (Dhaka-Metro-Tha-14-5435) plying on Barisal-Madaripur route was damaged and driver and helper of the van were injured in arson attack of pro-blockade picketers near Kataksthal government primary school on Barisal-Dhaka highway early Friday.
Sajjad Hossain, Gournadi police station officer in charge, said injured Liton Haoladar, driver and Tuhin Mridha, helper of the van, left the place with vehicle for Madaripur after given first-aid and flame was extinguished by the local people.
The injured driver said the attack caused damages worth Tk One lakh of the van.
On other hand, blockade passing loosely without hampering daily life in Barisal on Friday.
Road and water transportations on short and internal routes functioned with less numbers of transports and passengers.
Limited number of road transports on long routes operated with few passengers on Friday, Aftab Hossain, president of bus owners association and city Sramik League, claimed.
Azad Rahman, assistant commissioner and spokesman of Barisal Metropolitan Police, said there was no picketing in favour or against the blockade on Friday.
Law enforcing agencies patrolling on city roads to control any situation, told Shoibal Kanti Chowdhury, commissioner Barisal Metropolitan Police.
