2 held for spreading rumour on Salahuddin

Detective Branch (DB) of Police on Sunday arrested two youths from Chittagong port city for allegedly spreading a rumour that BNP Joint Secretary General Salahuddin Ahmed was traced at a char in Phulchhari upazila of Gaibanda district on Thursday.
The arrested persons were identified as Mokhlesur Rahman and Alim Shikdar.
Santosh Chakma, Sub-Inspector (SI) of DB Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) said that they were arrested from Mistripara of city’s Agrabad and Hosnabad after launching a drive in the early hours of Sunday.
They admitted that they had phoned identifying themselves as teachers and they were basically members of fraud gang, the police official said.
They deceive the families of missing people for money spreading rumour about their false whereabout. They collect phone numbers from newspapers where news of missing people are published, the SI said.
They are being interrogated at DB office, he added.
