A Dhaka court yesterday (Monday) placed two alleged gold smugglers on a four-day remand each after they were produced to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka with a petition seeking 10 days’ remand for each accused.
Magistrate Mohammad Erfanullah granted the remand. The two accused are Mohammad Ali and Sharif.
Earlier, Airport Police Station SI and Investigation Officer (IO) of the case Moniruzzaman produced the accused to the court with the petition seeking remand.
On a tip-off, police arrested the accused on Sunday afternoon and recovered 270 gold bars and six chains of gold beneath their seats of the plane BG-089-A, which landed at the Shahjalal International Airport from Bangkok.
While talking to the airport officials, the accused admitted their involvement in the smuggling.
