2 fishermen jailed for catching hilsa fry

A mobile court on Thursday sentenced two fishermen to one year’s jail for catching hilsa fry defying the government ban.
Sadar Upazila Taskforce conducted a drive in the Meghna River stretching from Rajrajeshwar to Harina at night and arrested two fishermen while catching hilsa fry, said Firoz Alam Mridha, senior fisheries officer of Sadar upazila.
Later, the arrestees were produced before a mobile court led by assistant commissioner (Land), also an executive magistrate, Avisek Das.
Later, the court sentenced Md Khorshed Alam, 20, son of Kajal Khan, a resident Bokaul Kandi, and Md Shahjalal, 27, son of Mohammd Hossain, a resident of North Tarabunia in Sakhipur upazila to one year’s imprisonment.
