2 ex-MPs among 13 Jamaat leaders held in city

Police in a drive arrested two former lawmakers and Assistant Secretary General of Jamaat-e-Islami Mia Golam Parwar and its Acting Ameer Professor Mojibur Rahman and 11 others from a house in the city’s Pallabi area on Monday afternoon, said Dadon Fakir, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Pallabi Police Station.
Police have also seized 20 crude bombs from their possession during the raid, the police official said.
The OC said, a team of a
police conducted a drive in a house in Mirpur Section-11 following information at around 3:30pm and arrested them during a secret meeting.”
According to Fakir, the detainees were planning to carry out subversive activities.
Legal action will be taken against the detained leaders, he said.
Meanwhile, Jamaat-e-Islami on Monday called protest rally across the country today (Tuesday) to press home the demand of unconditional release of the party leaders.
The announcement was made by a statement signed by the party’s Acting Ameer Mokbul Ahmad.
It also urged the leaders and activists of all the units to join the demonstration rally peacefully.
