Two people were electrocuted while carrying out repair works on an electric pole at Baninagar in Kaliganj upazila on Friday night. The deceased were identified as Rubel Mia, 22, son of Mansur Ali of Kakina union in Kaliganj upazila and Morsalin, 23, son of Abdur Jabbar Ali of the same area.
Witnesses said a truck hit the electric pole on Friday noon, disconnecting power supply of its 33,000KV electricity line in the area. The two men were electrocuted as power supply resumed at about 9:30pm during their repair work carried out under the supervision of Hatibandha power selling and distribution department.
Officials of the power department, including its engineer, fled the scene leaving their vehicle as soon as the incident took place. Later, locals took them to Kaliganj Hospital where doctors declared them dead.
