2 doctors infected per hour

More than two doctors are being infected in every hour across the country, according to the Bangladesh Doctors’ Foundation (BDF).
At least 49 more doctors, including six from the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) in Dhaka, have been infected with coronavirus in last 24 hours throughout the country, they said in a statement released on Tuesday morning.
With this, the total number of doctors infected with the deadly virus now stands at 422.
At NICVD, 15 people, including six doctors tested coronavirus positive. The spread of the virus also prompted authorities to close down three wards of the hospital.
Dr Kajal Kumar Karmakar, Associate Professor of NICVD’s Department of Cardiology, confirmed the matter to media.
He said apart from that, 15 more doctors and 37 nurses have been sent to home quarantine after their contact with the infected patients.
Dr Karmakar said the doctors, nurses, and staff of the hospital primarily got infected after coming in contact with infected patients.
On Sunday, a 13-year-old boy, who died in the hospital while receiving treatment for heart disease, tested coronavirus positive.
Till now, eight patients who came to NICVD with cardiovascular ailments tested Covid-19 positive.
“All of the identified Covid-19 patients have been transferred to Mugda General Hospital for treatment,” he added.
Of the total number of infected doctors in the country, 308 are from Dhaka (191 from government hospitals, 97 from private hospitals and 20 others), 46 from Mymensingh (45 from government and 1 from private), 14 from Chittagong (13 from government and 1 from private), 13 from Khulna (all from government hospitals), 10 from Barisal (all from government hospitals), 6 from Sylhet (all from government hospitals), 5 from Rangpur (all from government hospitals), and 20 others, added the statement.
As many as 883,238 people have recovered from Covid-19, which has spread to 210 countries and territories across the planet.
