A two-day Asian Film Festival began at Dhaka University Teacher-Student Center (TSC) auditorium. MCJ Film Club, an association of Mass Communication and Journalism (MCJ) Department of the university, organized the event with the slogan ‘Deshiyo Pordai Esiyo Chalacchitra,’ subtitled “Asian Films on Indigenous Screen”.
DU Vice-Chancellor Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique inaugurated the festival as the chief guest while actress Sarah Begum Kobori, film directors Morshedul Islam and Mostofa Sarwar Farooki and actor Ferdous Ahmed addressed the function as the special guests.
MCJ Department Chairman Professor Mafizur Rhaman chaired the function.
Terming film as an important medium of education, Professor Arefin Siddique said film can be a very strong tool to root out terrorism and militancy from the society.
“There has been a conflict between good and bad, light and dark, liberalism and extremism for long. Film takes away crisis of civilization by removing narrowness of mind,” the vice-chancellor said.
He called for making healthy film to show the path of enlightenment by removing darkness from the society.
Seven films of China, South Korea, India, Hong Kong, Iran, Japan and host Bangladesh are being screened during the festival.
