2 `criminals` killed in Cox`s Bazar gunfight

UNB, Cox’s Bazar :Two suspected criminals, including the leader of a criminal gang, were shot dead in a gunfight between two groups of criminals over establishing control over Shikdarghona in the district town on Sunday.The deceased were identified as Nurul Alam, 35, ringleader of infamous ‘Nurul Alam Bahini’ and its second-in-command Kalu alias Barmaiya Kalu, 32.Aslam Khan, officer-in-charge of Cox’s Bazar Sadar Model Police Station, said two criminal gangs-one led by Nurul Alam and another by Ramzan Ali-had been at loggerheads over establishing dominance in the area.As a sequel to the conflict, both groups equipped with firearms attacked each other at noon and exchanged around 50 bullets, leaving the duo dead on the spot.On information, police recovered the bodies and sent those to Sadar Hospital morgue.However, 8-10 other people were also injured in the gunfight but their identities could not be known as they managed to flee the scene, said the OC.Earlier, Sheikh Abdullah, a criminal was gunned down in a clash between two groups of criminals in the area on October 16, the OC added.
