Two poisonous cobras were caught along with 70 fertilized eggs from a house belonging to one Kamrul Islam of village Durgapur under Chitalmari Upazila in the district on Sunday noon.
The cobras and their eggs were brought to the local Shahid Minar premises where huge crowds assembled to see them on the same day.
Kamrul Islam said that he and other members of his family got the scent of the appearance of snakes in their dwelling houses a few days ago and found a big dead outer skin of a snake only 2 days ago.
On the day Kamrul Islam and some others began to search the sakes and found a hole on the kutcha plinth of his house under a cot and as soon as they began to dig it 2 big sized (6/7 feet long) cobras appeared from the hole with expanded hoods. Then they dug it and recovered 70 eggs and caught 5 more snakes of other species from the hole. They found all the eggs contained tendered cobras.
When contacted Md. Abdur Rahman, Upazila Livestock officer of Chitalmari told The New Nation , catching of so big sized cobras along with as many as 70 fertilized eggs is a rare incident.
