Two children drowned in the Padma River at Hasail village in Tongibari upazila on Friday.
The deceased were identified as Sadia, 8, daughter of Syed Banduksari, and Trishna, 10, daughter of Shyamol Das of the village.
Local people said both the girls drowned while taking bath in the river in the afternoon.
After a frantic search, locals rescued them and rushed them to Tongibari Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared them dead.
Abdul Malek, officer-in-charge of Tongibari Police Station, confirmed the incident.
