2 cases filed against 150 BNP men over Bakshibazar clash

UNB, Dhaka: Two cases have been filed against 150 leaders and activists of BNP, Jubo Dal and Chhatra Dal in connection with Wednesday’s clash with Bangladesh Chhatra League men in Bakshibazar of the city ahead of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s appearance in the makeshift court there. Former Chhatra Dal president Azizul Bari Helal and its incumbent president Rajib Ahsan have been named as accused in a case. Sub-inspector Saheb Ali of Nilkhet police camp filed a case on Wednesday night with Shahbagh Police Station against 23 identified and some 50-60 unidentified Jubo Dal and Chhatra Dal men for their alleged involvement in the attempt to murder Awami League MP Chhabi Bishaws MP (Netrakona-1) and also in arson, vandalism and attack on the law enforcers. In another case filed with Chawkbazar Police Station by its sub-inspector Delwar Hossain, some 70 identified and another 30-40 unnamed BNP men were made accused for allegedly assaulting police. On Wednesday noon, BNP leaders and activists clashed with Chhatra League activists near Bakshibazar makeshift court ahead of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s appearance in the court there in two graft cases, which left at least 30 people, including a ruling party MP, injured. Miscreants torched a parked private car of Chhobi Bishwas MP during the clash. BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia appeared before the makeshift court set up on the Bakshibazar Alia Madrasah playground on Wednesday amid the clash.
