Two members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) were killed as a truck crashed into their motorcycle in Fulbari upazila here on Friday. The deceased were identified Al Amin, 20, son of Golam Mostafa of Laxmipur, and Rubel, 22, son of Abdul Khaleque of Sirajganj. They were posted at Dinajpur BGB Battalion-29. The truck hit the bike of the two border guards at Rajarampur on Dinajpur-Dhaka highway around 1:30pm, leaving them dead on the spot, said Lt Col Zahidur Rashid, commanding officer of the battalion. The BGB men met the accident while returning to the battalion after seizing Phensidyl syrup at Nawabganj in the upazila, he said. Meanwhile, locals were locked into a clash with the BGB men when they went to the Rajarampur area to arrest the truck driver and his helper. On information that the truck driver along with his helper hid in the area, a BGB men launched a drive there to arrest them. However, the locals engaged in a clash with the paramilitary force members who then lobbed truncheons on them. The unruly mob pelted the BGB men with brick chips, vandalised their vehicle and took away a magazine. Locals alleged that the BGB members beat some of them asking them to hand over the truck driver and the helper to them. When they told them that they know nothing in this regard, the border guards launched attack on several shops and vandalised those, they said, claiming that nine people were also injured in the BGB action.– UNB
