Two persons were arrested by the forest department at Mongla under Mongla Upazila in Bagerhat district on Saturday on the charge of catching crabs illegally from Sundarban forest during the breeding period. In this connection a case was registered with the local PS against them and they were sent to the jail hajat through the court.
Humayun Kabir, officer-in-charge of Dhangmari forest office under Chandpai forest range in the Eastern Division of Sundarban forest disclosed, while after catching the crabs from the forest some dishonest fishermen were fleeing away by a trawler through the river Pashur on Saturday in the morning a contingent of the forest guards who were discharging their normal patrol duties found a trawler in suspicious movement. Then the forest guards searched the trawler, recovered 10 maunds of crabs from it and arrested 2 persons from the same. The arrested persons are fisherman Abdul Mannan, son of one Tayeb Ali of village Sonailtala under Mongla Upaazila and owner of the trawler Md. Ezaher Gazi, son of one Fazar Gazi of village Shibirdanga under Rampal Upazila in Bagerhat district. In this connection the forest department registered a case with the local PS against the arrested persons under Forest Act and sent them to the court at Bagerhat district headquarters.
Md. Mehdizzaman, ACF, Chandpai forest range told, steps will be taken about the seized crabs after getting the direction of the court.
