Sonali Bank robbery: 2 accused taken on 3-day remand

A Kishoreganj court has granted police remand for three days to interrogate two accused in the daring Kishoreganj Sonali Bank robbery. Senior Judicial
Magistrate Hamidul Islam issued the order on Tuesday.
The accused are Mahima Khatun, wife of Sohel alias Habib, the mastermind of the heist, and Alamgir, helper of the driver of the truck carrying the looted money.
Investigation Officer and Kishoreganj Model Police Station OC Abdul Malek said that they prayed for seven days remand to question them.
The story of stealing Tk 164 million was discovered on Jan 26. Police found a 15-feet-long tunnel from a nearby house leading to the bank vault room.
Eight policemen were at once suspended for negligence of duty. Police filed a case that night, initially accusing unnamed people. On Jan 28, RAB arrested Sohel and his accomplice Idris along with five sacks of money from a house at Dhaka’s Shyampur.
Later, police arrested Sohel’s wife Mahima at Dhaka’s Jatrabarhi and Alamgir at Mymensingh.
