Alleged rape of DU student: 2 accused put on 2-day remand

A Dhaka Court on Monday placed Nazmul Huda and Saiful Islam – leaders of Bangladesh Students’ Rights Council (BSRC) – on remand over the cases filed against them for allegedly abetting and raping a female Dhaka University (DU) student.
The Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Morshed Al Mamun Bhuiyan granted a two-day remand each for BSRC DU unit President
Nazmul, and the student body’s Joint Convener Saiful after Dhaka’s Kotwali police station sought a seven-day remand for each of them.
Earlier in the day, Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s (DMP) Detective Branch (DB) showed the due arrested in the two cases filed by a female DU student.
“They were arrested from Azimpur and Moghbazar areas of Dhaka on Sunday night,” DMP Deputy Commissioner (Media) Walid Hossain confirmed media.
He also mentioned Saiful and Nazmul are the fourth and fifth accused in the rape case.
Earlier on Sunday, the members of the organization had told the media that three leaders of the BSRC – Sohrab Hossain, Saiful Islam, Nazmul Huda, and – were picked up by some plain cloth policemen from different parts of the capital.
On September 21, a student of Dhaka University has accused former DU Central Students’ Union (Ducsu) vice president (VP) Nurul Haque Nur of abetting rape.
The victim filed the case against six persons with Lalbagh police station.
All of the accused in the cases are members and leaders of the Bangladesh Students’ Rights Council and are current and former students of Dhaka University.
