One killed in arson attack in Joypurhat, 30 injured

A passenger of a bus was killed in arson attack in Joypurhat district and at least 30 people received injuries on Sunday during the 1st day of the fresh 72-hour hartal of BNP-led alliance.
The seventh spell of shutdown that started at 6:00am is set to continue till Wednesday 6:00am coupled with a nationwide road-rail-waterway blockade for indefinite period.
In Joypurhat, a passenger of a bus of Janakallayn Paribahan, was killed when miscreants hurled several petrol bombs at the vehicle on the Khetlal-Malamgari Road near Karimpur in Sadal upazila in the evening.
The victim was identified as Kumar Mohanta, 37, resident of the district.
Police recovered at least five petrol bombs and several crude bombs from the spot.
The mobs caught-red handed six miscreants and handed over the police. In the capital, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) claimed that recovered a  
huge cache of explosives, improvised bombs, gunpowder and petrol bombs from the capital’s Surtapur area early in the morning. The arrested three men in this connection.
Meanwhile, unidentified miscreants hurled at least ten crude bombs at police van in the city’s Paltan area in the morning. The attackers also vandalised five vehicles, with a bus of Shekhar Paribahan damaged badly.
Police have detained four men from Paltan and Topkhana for their suspected involvement in the incident. The were identified as Emdadul Haque, Moniruzzaman, Tajul Islam and Dipak Ghosh.
At Badda, a young man was injured in a police shooting while trying to torch a bus in the capital city’s Uttar Badda on Sunday night.
“Police also chased him but he tried to escape. Police then shot him in his left leg.”
The injured Babu was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
In Narayanganj, at least 10 people, including three police personnel, received injured in a clash and chase with a gang of ‘miscreants’ at Chonpara Rehabilitation Centre in Rupganj upazila in the evening.
In Comilla, miscreants hurled a petrol bomb at a passenger bus at the Chittagong-bound bus of ‘Unique Paribahan’ in Chandina upazila early hours of the day.
In Chittagong, plice detained three Shibir men alongwith firearms and ammunition from Sitakunda upazila early Sunday.
They also recovered 70 petrol bombs, 50 cocktails, 10 home made weapons, two firearms and 20 bullets from the spot.
In Tangail, plice recovered nine petrol bombs and three crude bombs from a pile of thatch owned by local Awami League member of Dholapara union unit under Ghatail upazila in the district.
