1971 veteran Hemayet Uddin dies

Gallantry award winning Liberation War veteran Hemayet Uddin died of cardiac arrest at a city hospital early on Saturday. He was 74.
He left behind three wives, 11 sons, two daughters and a host of relatives and admirers to mourn his death.
Hemayet, a former army soldier, is more known as the chief of Liberation War time Hemayet Bahini, a freedom fighters force named after him. He had fled the then West Pakistan in a dramatic manner as the Liberation War broke out and organized and led the freedom fighters against the Pakistani troops.
After the independence, he was conferred with the Bir Bikrom gallantry award.
His first Namaz-e-Janaza was held at Mirpur Muktijoddha Complex at Hemayet Uddin, Bir Bikram Road, Mirpur while the second one was held one hour later at Masjid Ferdous at Mirpur-2.
