19500 educational buildings to be constructed by next year: Minister

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid said as many as 19,500 buildings will be set up at secondary schools, madrasahs, colleges and public universities by the next year.
“Under the current development projects, 184 academic and residential buildings, student dormitories and buildings for research are being constructed at public universities,” he said this on Saturday while speaking at a view-exchange meeting with grassroots engineers of Education Engineering Department (EED) in IMLI auditorium at Segun Bagicha here, said a press release.
Nahid said some 7,851 academic buildings were constructed at the secondary level under the first project while construction of 1051 more buildings are underway.
The minister urged the officials of EED to work with honesty and efficiency to complete all works of this fiscal year by next May.
“Any kind of corruption and negligence in the work of infrastructural development will not be tolerated. We take zero tolerance policy in this regard,” he added.
Director General of Secondary and Higher Secondary Directorate Professor SM Wahiduzzaman, Education Secretary Sohrab Hossain and EED Director General Khaleda Akhter spoke on the occasion with EED Chief Engineer Dewan Mohammad Hanzala in the chair.
