Each of the total 19,473 fishermen families, who maintain livelihood by catching fish from the Kaptai Lake here, will get 10 kg rice under the government’s Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) programme in each of the three months, from May till June.
The government took the decision to stop fishing from the lake in these three months to ensure free and safe breeding of local variety fishes.
Deputy Commissioner AKM Mamurur Rashid said the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief sent an allocation letter of 389 metric tons of rice to the local disaster management and relief office recently.
The rice will be distributed through the upazila nirbahi officers of eight upazilas in the district. Special monitoring will be ensured during the distribution.
From May 1, the District Administration imposed a three-month band on fishing from the Kaptai Lake.
