The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in a nightlong drive arrested nine alleged human traffickers from the city’s Farmgate and Kawran Bazar areas on Wednesday and rescued at least 19 people, whom the traffickers picked up for sending to the Middle East countries.
RAB seized also nine passports and some fake visas of various countries, including of Iraq, RAB officials said.
RAB-2’s Commanding Officer Lt Col KM Azad said this at a press briefing in the city’s Agargaon on Wednesday afternoon and added that a team of the elite force raided different residences in Farmgate and Kawran Bazar areas following information and arrested them along with the
passports and visas from under their possessions.
The RAB official said that the traffickers took a large amount of money from the fortune seekers saying that they would be given good jobs in the Middle East countries without any hazard.
The arrested traffickers confessed to the RAB in primary interrogation that they had an international trafficking link, he said.
A legal action would be taken against them in this connection.
