The National Textbook Festival marking the distribution of free text books among the primary, high school, vocational and madrasa students was celebrated in 13 upazilas in Kishoreganj on Wednesday.
Deputy Commissioner Md. Sarowar Morshed Chowdhury inaugurated National Textbook Festival as Chief Guest and DEO Zulfiqur Hossain, DPEO Subrata Kumar Bonik attended as special guest while ADC (Edn & ICT) Md. Habibur Rahman presided over the function at Biam Laboratory School in the town . .
At least 70,44,454 free textbooks were distributed among 8,37,375 students of the primary, high school, vocational and madrasa level students in Kishoreganj district.
Kishoreganj Police Lines School arranged the free book distribution programme at its play ground. Police Super Md. Mashrukur Rahman Khaled BPM (Bar) attended as Chief Guest while School Headmaster Shafiqul Islam presided over . Additional S.P Nazmul Islam, Additional S.P Mizanur Rahman attended as special guest.
BSS from Khulna reports: The Textbook Festival Day -2020 was celebrated here yesterday with distribution of free textbooks to primary and higher secondary level school students.
As part of the countrywide free textbooks distribution programme,
Department of secondary and higher secondary education of Khulna region organised divisional level books distribution programme at Khulna Zila School ground.
Mayor of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Talukder Abdul Khaleque inaugurated the ceremony as the chief guest by handing over textbooks among the students with deputy commissioner Md. Helal Hossain in the chair.
Divisional Commissioner Dr. Muhammad Anwar Hossain Hawlader and Director of the Department of secondary and higher secondary education of Khulna region Prof Sheikh Harunur Rashid attended the function as special guest. The chief guest said it is a great achievement for the present government to hand over free textbooks to the primary, secondary and madrasa students on January 1 on the occasion of the Happy New Year.
He also said that government is also determined to extend education facilities among physically challenged students. A total of 4, 61,740 textbooks were distributed among 2, 36,425 students in Khulna district.
Deputy Director of the department of secondary and higher secondary education of Khulna region Niva Rani Pathok, Superintendent of Police SM Shafiullah, Headmistress of Khulna Zila School Farhana Naj, District Education Officer Md. Ruhul Amin also spoke at distribution ceremony.
BSS from Rajshahi adds: Primary and secondary level students got new textbooks in festive mood in the city and other adjacent districts yesterday, the first day of the new year 2020.
Book distribution ceremony has been arranged in every school to handover books among the students.

Mayor Liton said the present government has been distributing free books to the school students aimed at ensuring education for all to free the nation from the curse of illiteracy. The meeting was told that more than 23.54 lakh students of 8,840 primary schools got around 1.12 crore books in the division.
The students were seen very happy after getting new books on the first day of the year and we have kept five percent books as buffer stock for meeting any deficit and for the newly admitted students.
Abul Kalam Azad told BSS that required number of books were sent to all the government and registered non-government schools in the district for distribution among the students.
Rajshahi Collegiate School arranged a book distribution festival at its premises. Divisional Commissioner Humayun Kabir Khandakar distributed books as chief guest with Deputy Commissioner Hamidul Haque in the chair.
