Eid journey costs more lives: 19 killed in road crashes

Reckless driving by drivers continue on the Roads and Highways to earn more profits on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr. At least 19 persons, including nine in Sirajganj, were killed and 60 others seriously injured in a separate tragic road crashes across the country on Sunday.
In Sirajganj, at least nine persons were killed and 20 others injured in a face to face collision between a passenger bus and a human hauler, locally known as Leguna, in Ullapara upazila of the district on Sunday noon.
The accident occurred on the Bogura-Nagarbari Highway at Boalia around 12:30pm on Sunday.
The deceased were identified as Akhtar, 42, son of one Insaf Ali from Barhar village, Nur Islam, 45, son of one Rezaul Karim from Koarakrishna village, Mohammad, 35 and Sabuj, 25, sons of Jabbar of the same village, Joyen Uddin, 50, son of Jaynal Sarkar , and Manna, 45, son of Gafur Fakir from Bedkandi village, Rezaul, 35 son of Yunus Ali from Pagla village.
However, identity of two others could not be known instantly.
Local sources said that a Pabna-bound passenger bus of Pabna Express from Dhaka rammed the human hauler coming from opposite direction on the highway near the Boalia bridge around 12:30pm, leaving eight people, including Leguna driver, dead on the spot.

The injured were taken to Sirajganj Sadar Hospital where one of the injured succumbed to his injuries, added the OC.
In Sunamganj, at least seven persons were killed and six others injured when a passenger bus rammed a human hauler (leguna) in South Sunamganj upazila of the district on Sunday morning.
Of the deceased, four were identified as Md Sagar Mia, 16, son of one Istu Mia; Md Limon Mia, 17, son of one Fazal Mia; Afzal Mia, son of one Md Alim of Durbokanda village in South Sunamganj Upazila and driver of leguna Md Noman, 28, son of Ali Akbar of Gagli village of the upazila.
The incident occurred at Patharia around 6:30am, said the Superintendent of Police Md Barkatullah Khan.
Harunur Rashid Chowdhury, Officer in-Charge (OC) of Dakshin Sunamganj Police Station confirmed the matter to the media that said six persons died on the spot and three others received injuries in the road crash.
In Munshiganj, a helper of a passenger bus,40, was killed and 15 others injured when another bus rammed him at Vitikandi on the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway under Gojaria upazila of the district.
In Natore, a minor girl named Tasnim Mirdha, 08, was killed after a microbus overturned in Boraigram upazila of the district.
