At least 18 people, including a child, received severe injuries as a car ploughed through crowd at Kurmitola in the capital on Sunday afternoon.
Locals rescued the injured men and rushed them to several hospitals.
Of the victims, eleven men have been identified as Farid, Rajjak, Azim, Rajib, Rashed, Bakkar, Azizul Islam, Salma, Rahima, Maksuda and Nazma.
Kazi Sahan Haque, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Cantonment Police Station, said that the victims were waiting at Kurmitola bus stoppage for getting on a public bus while the private car hit them.
“Five of them were taken to Kurmitola General Hospital. Four of the critically injured, including the child, were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital,” the police said.
Another victim was taken to the National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital as his condition deteriorated, the OC said.
A case has been filed with the police station, he added.
