Buses torched in Dhaka: 178 BNP leaders, activists get bail from HC

The High Court on Wednesday granted anticipatory bail to 178 BNP leaders and activists for one month in 16 cases filed with different police stations in Dhaka over the incidents of torching 11 buses at different places in the capital city on November 12 in 2020.
The High Court bench of Justice Md Habibul Gani and Justice Md Riaz Uddin Khan passed the order after holding hearing on separate 36 petitions filed in this regard.
Barrister Kayser Kamal and advocate Gazi Kamrul Islam Sajal appeared in the hearing for the bail seekers, while Deputy Attorney General Abul Hashem represented the state.
Later Mr Kayser Kamal said, “The court granted them bail for one month and asked them to surrender in the trial court within February 7 in 2021.”
A total of 16 cases have been filed with different police stations in Dhaka over the incidents of torching 11 buses at different places in the capital city on November 12 last year.
Around 500 leaders and activists of the main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party and its associate organizations and several unidentified people including its standing committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy have been made accused in the cases.
