A total of 178 representatives from 16 countries and international organizations have applied to be the observer during the 11th National election scheduled to be held on December 30, the Election Commission sources said.
Of them, 81 representatives are Bangladeshi citizens and most of the representatives out of rest 97 who are working in Bangladesh right now.
Instead of the 16 countries and international organizations the EC also invited Forum of Election Management Bodies of South Asia (FEMBSA), International Islamic Songstha (OIC) and Commonwealth to send their representative to observe the national election.
The EC sources said, the US applied to appoint maximum number of representatives. Of them, 33 are the Banglashi citizens and rest of them are citizens of different countries working in Bangladesh.
The Asian Network for Free Election expressed its keen interest to send 32 observers. Besides, France applied to send 4 observers (Two BD citizens), Japan nine (Five BD citizens), Denmark three (Two BD citizens), Norway two (One BD citizen) Germany eight (Two BD citizens), Netherlands four and Switzerland six (Four BD citizens).
International Foundation for Electoral System applied to send four (Three BD citizens) representatives, Democracy International 24 (22 BD citizens), Dipendra Kandel Initiative three, International Republic Institute four (two BD citizens) and Asian foundation seven (five BD citizens). Secretary of Election Commission Helaluddin Ahmed said, the EC received a total of 30,000 application from different organizations.
