The Ministry of Education has finalised a new list of private educational institutions for the monthly payment order scheme, popularly known as MPO.
Officials said, the list of 1,763 institutions was sent to the Prime Minister Office on Wednesday.
They said, if the list gets the Prime Minister’s approval a gazette notification will be published in this regard naming the MPO eligible educational institutions.
“We have finalised the list of private secondary educational institutions for MPO enlistment and it has already been sent to the Prime Minister’s Office for approval,” a high official of the Education Ministry told The New Nation on Thursday.
He said, a notification will be issued if the list gets Prime Minister’s approval. When asked, the official said, the private educational institutions, which fulfilled all the conditions, have been incorporated in the list.
Earlier, the Education Ministry sought application from private educational institutes for the MPO enlistment.
Of the total applications, around 2,500 institutions are found to be eligible to come under the MPO scheme. However, the Ministry of Education has finalised a list of 1,763 institutes for this year’s PM’s approval.
MPO is the government’s share in the payroll of non-government educational institutions. Under the scheme, the government gives 100 per cent basic salaries to the teachers of non-government schools. The teachers also get a small amount every month as allowances through the scheme.
Private educational institutions were included in the MPO in 2010. Since then no new educational institution has received MPO.
