Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Ji Liming on Monday said his country not want spreading coronavirus in Bangladesh, so it (China) yet to send back 172 Bangladeshi students from Hubei Province as there is a risk of spreading the virus here.
“I think there is a risk of spreading coronavirus here in Bangladesh if we brought back those Bangaldeshi students from Hubei,” said Ji Liming while addressing the Diplomatic Correspondents Association of Bangladesh (DCAB) at the National Press Club.
Earlier, Bangladesh brought back 312 Bangladeshis from Wuhan, the epicenter of coronavirus on February 1.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh has stopped on-arrival visas for Chinese citizens. The Chinese embassy in Dhaka has also instructed Chinese citizens to not visit China from Bangladesh for now.
Ji Liming also remarked the virus as “enemy of the world” and suggested that all the Bangladeshis coming from China are quarantined for 14 days to stop any spread of the virus.
The Chinese envoy also asked Bangladeshi businesses not to switch their imports to other countries because of coronavirus.
“I think imports from other sources will be costly and unnecessary for Bangladeshi businesses,” he said.
The ambassador said the Chinese New Year holiday that was extended is now over and that businesses are coming back. So, it will not be wise for the businesses to source their raw materials from other countries.
