17 gamblers arrested in city

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), in separate drives, arrested 17 alleged gamblers in capital’s Chakbazar and South Keraniganj police station areas.
“A total of 17 people, including nine gamblers, were arrested from Champatli area of Chawkbazar police station and Shuvadda Uttarpara of South Keraniganj police station areas on Friday night,” Additional DIG Mahfuzur Rahman, commander of RAB-10, told BSS on Saturday.
He said 29 mobile phones, Taka 55,523 in cash, 1140 pieces of gambling cards, a bed sheet and a box were seized from their possessions during the operation.
The detainees in two separate drives include: Md Rubel (35), Md Alamgir (33), Md Yusuf (34), Md Hasan (38), Md Ibrahim (32), Md Hasan (32), Mohammad Ali (40), Azizul Islam (30), Md Siddiqur Rahman (32), Md Iqbal Hossain (35), Md Arif Bepari (38), Md Soleiman (38), Md Haidul (38), Md Selim (41), Md Palash (38) , Md Sohail (32) and Md Mizan Talukder (38).
During the preliminary interrogation, the detainees admitted that they were professional gamblers and involved in various criminal activities.
Meanwhile, the preliminary interrogation revealed that the arrestees were professional gamblers and they had been involved in gambling for a long time, creating chaos in society, the RAB officer added.
Separate cases were filed against them with respective police stations.
