Chittagong District Police arrested 162 people including 4 leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS), conducting special drives at different upazilas of the district on Saturday night..
The law enforcers also recovered one Single Barrel Gun, 2 cartridges, 2,000 pieces of contraband Yaba tablets and 108 litres liquor during the night-long drives.
Mohammad Naimul Hasan, Additional Superintendent of Police (Special Branch) of Chittagong district police said that several teams of police conducted the drives in different upazilas of the district on saturday night and rounded up 112 people.Among the detained 26 are accused in regular cases and 86 are warranted accused, sources said.
Chittagong district police in separate series of drives arrested 50 activists of Jamaat-Shibir from two upazilas of the district on Friday night.
Naimul Hasan, Additional Superintendent of Police (Special Branch) of Chittagong district said police in overnight raids detained 15 Jamaat and 24 Shibir activists from Satkania upazila and 11 Shibir activists from Lohagara upazila on Friday night.
The arrested were accused of sabotage acts, the police officer added.
