Chittagong Bureau :
At least 16 dwelling houses and three shops were gutted in separate fire incidents in the district on Saturday night last.
In the first incident 14 semi-pucca houses and three shops were burnt to ashes by a devastating fire at Zoreumtal area of Boro Kumira under Sitakunda upazila of the district at 12.50 am last night.
Firemen with the help of locals brought the fire under control at 3.10am. Valuables worth about Tk ten lakh were gutted in the fire, fire service sources said.
Earlier, two dwelling houses were burnt to ashes by devastating fire at Talbaria area of Mirsari upazila in the district at 11.30pm last night.
The cause of the fire in both the places was electric short circuit.
