The incidence of road accidents and casualties resulting from them increased in the first four months of the current year, compared to the same period last year.
At least 1,552 people, including 421 women and children, were killed and 3,832 others were injured in 1,372 road crashes across the country in last four months between January 1 and April 30 this year.
The fatal accidents took place on the highways and national, inter-district and regional roads during the period, according to a report conducted by by the National Committee to Protect
Shipping, Roads and Railways (NCPSRR).
The corresponding figure was 1,314 people, including 383 women and children, killed and 3,393 others received injuries in 1,236 road mishaps between January 1 and April 30 last year.
The NCPSRR, a non-government organization, on Tuesday revealed the information in a regular monthly survey and observation in a report.
The report was prepared on the basis of reports gathered from 22 national dailies, 10 regional newspapers and eight online news portals and news agencies, said a NCPSRR press release.
The report shows that the rate of road accidents increased by 11 percent in the first 4 months of the ongoing year in comparison with the same period of 2016 while the rate of death and injured increased by 15.82% and 12.93% respectively.
