15 killed in road accidents

At least 15 people were killed in separate road accidents across the country on Monday.
Six of them killed were in Mymensingh, five in Habiganj, two in Gaibandha, one in Rajbari and capital Dhaka each according to agency and our correspondent.  
In Mymensingh six people, including a woman,were killed and three others injured in a road accident at Lengra Bazaar on the Mymensingh-Tangail Highway under Muktagachha upazila of the district yesterday morning.
The victims have been identified as Abdus Salam, 32, his mother Nabiron Bewa,55, Md Tofannya, 70, Abul Kashem, 72, Joynal Abedin and Monto Miah, 32. Allof them were inhabitants of Paikpara village of the upazila.
Sub-inspector of Muktagachha thana Jahidul Islam said that the accident
occurred when a CNG-run auto-rickshaw collided head-on with a fish-laden
pickup van at about 11 am, leaving four auto- rickshaw passengers dead on the
spot and five others injured.
Of the injured, two were sent to Muktagacha Upazila Health Complex, where they succumbed to their injuries.
Three injured passengers Iqbal Hossain, 30, Lutfur Rahman, 32, and Monwara Khatun, 28, were shifted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH) for better treatment
In Habiganj, five persons, four of a family, were killed and two others injured when a private car collided head-on with a truck at Sadarghat on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway under Nabiganj upazila of the district yesterday morning.
The deceased were Abdul Hamid, 70, his wife Kulsum Begum, 55, son Abdul Kadir, 35, and daughter Sharmin Akhter, 14, of Jaflong-Mohmmadpur village under Gowainghat upazila and the private car driver Shah Alam, 32, of Bilatoil area under Jaintiapur upazila of Sylhet district.
Police said that the accident occurred when the rock-laden truck and the private car carrying five persons collided head-on in the area early yesterday morning. All the private car passengers, including the driver, died on the spot.
The injured were sent to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital. Officer-in-charge of Sherpur Highway Thana Nurunnabi Sarker confirmed the incident.
In Gaibandha, husband and wife were killed and their child was injured as a truck rammed their motorbike at Adarsha Bazar on Naldanga-Bamandanga Road in Sadullapur upazila on Monday morning.
The deceased were identified as Matiar Rahman and his wife Asma Khatun.
Officer-in-charge of Sadullapur Police Station Farhad Imrul Kayes said that the spouses and their child were going to Naldanga from Enayetpur in the Rangpur district riding the bike.
When they reached Adarsha Bazar, a speeding truck hit their bike around 10:30am, leaving the spouses dead on the spot and their child injured.
Local people caught the truck driver and handed him over to police.
In Rajbari, one person was killed and four others injured in a collision between a bus and a human hauler (locally known as Mahindra) on the Rajbari-Faridpur highway in the district town on Monday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Uttam Kumar Dey, 53, son of Sushil Kumar Dey, a resident of Binodpur village of the district town.
Officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station Shahidul Islam said that the Rajbari-bound bus from Faridpur collided head-on with the battery-run three-wheeler coming from the opposite direction in front of Rajbari Fire Service office at about 8:30 am, leaving Uttam, a passenger of the human hauler, dead on the spot and four others injured.
Police recovered the body and sent it to the hospital morgue for autopsy.
The injured were admitted to Rajbari Sadar Hospital.
Later, injured human hauler driver Jahangir Hossain was moved to Faridpur Medical College Hospital as his condition deteriorated.
Police also seized the bus, but its driver and his helper managed to flee the scene.
In capital Dhaka, a man was killed under a bus in front of Joykali Mandir in the city’s Wari area on Monday morning.
The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately.
Witnesses said that a speeding bus ran over the man, aged about 45, in the area while he was crossing the road at about 9:30 am, leaving him seriously injured.
Later, a pedestrian named Morsalin and a bank official rescued the man and took him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
Mozammel Haque, inspector of DMCH police camp, confirmed the death.
