15 hurt over land dispute in Gopalganj

At least 15 people were injured, five with bullets, in a clash between two groups of two villages over a land dispute at Mandartala in the district town on Thursday.
Locals said Mahbub Ali Sohel, councillor of ward No 8, and Tushar Ahmed, brother of Borashi union parishad chairman Manir Ahmed had long been at loggerheads over the ownership of a piece of land.
As a sequel to the enmity, the supporters of both groups equipped with weapons and firearms attacked each other around 4:15 pm, leaving the 15 people injured.Seven of the injured were rushed to Gopalganj 250-Bed Hospital.
At least 12 shops were vandalised during the melee.On information, police rushed in and fired 30 rounds of bullets to disperse them, and arrested six people.
