The Department of Fisheries of Rajbari district and the local administration in joint drive on Saturday fined 15 fishermen worth Tk 15,000 for illegally catching Hilsa in violation of the government ban on netting mother Hilsa for eleven days from October 5.
District Fisheries Officer (DFO) Ratan Dutta along with Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Gualanda Pankaj Kumar and Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer (SUFO) in-charge of Faridpur and Rajbari districts Md Ahsan Hasib Khan conducted the drive at Rajbari Sadar, Gualanda and Pangsha upazilas yesterday and recovered a total of 132 kilograms of mother Hilsa.
During the drive, they also seized a huge number of fishing nets and burnt those on the spot.
The drive against catching mother Hilsa is being continued as part of the government ban on Hilsa fishing from October 5 to 15.
