Malaysian Immigration Department in a raid at a plywood factory in Kedah region detained 89 foreigners, including 15 Bangladeshis on charge of committing for various immigration offences.
The eighty-nine foreigners from eight countries were picked up for the aforesaid offences, reports Malaysian-based newspaper The Star Online reports on Thursday.
A Malaysian man was also arrested for allegedly harbouring the foreigners.
They were among 860 foreigners and locals screened during the raid led by Kedah Immigration Department Assistant
Director Nar Azaman Ibrahim at 2.45pm on Tuesday.
Department Director Mohamad Yusri Hashim said, of them 26 were Nepalese, 21 Indonesians, 21 Vietnamese, 15 Bangladeshis, two Chinese, two Pakistanis, one Cambodian and one Burmese.
Yusri said that the Chinese nationals tried to escape, but were arrested shortly afterwards.
“It is believed that they were employed as technicians to repair the factory’s plywood processing machines which were made in China.”
