More than 1,498 poor and distressed litigants get legal aid here as the district legal aid committee had taken initiative of disposing of their litigation free of cost.
At present, the committee has been dealing with more than 2,992 other cases facilitating the poor and helpless litigants so that they can avail proper justice.
Begum Kabita Khanom, Senior District and Session Judge and Chairman of National Legal Aid Committee of Rajshahi, revealed this while sharing views with journalists at his office here yesterday afternoon.
“We are pledged bound to make the legal aid services more effective, expedited and fruitful with cooperation of quarters especially media personnel,” he asserted. There is a need for making the present legal aid activities more effective, expedited and fruitful furthermore.
Infusing dynamism into the legal aid services could be an effective means of attaining the cherished goal. Only the judiciary or any other single organisation is not capable of ensuring legal aid to the underprivileged people but a comprehensive effort is essential in this regard. Responsive media role is very important in this regard.
Judge Kabita Khanom opined that entire people are equal to the eye of law so emphasis should be given on bringing all the disadvantaged litigants under the legal aid coverage whatever and whenever they need.
Giving priority to the legal aid related cases is very important in terms of speedy disposal in the greater interest of the distressed and poor justice-seeker litigants.
The judges, lawyers, police and others concerned should have to work together along with service-oriented zeal as the government is committed to provide legal aid services to the poor and distressed victims free of cost, she opined.
District Legal Aid Officer and Senior Assistant Judge Nuruzzaman Sarker supplemented the district judge in the meeting.
