The 14-party alliance led by Awami League (AL) will contest in the 11th Parliamentary Polls with ‘Boat’ symbol, AL’s Organising Secretary Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Noufel said yesterday.
He said that a letter had been handed over to Election Commission (EC) informing about the election symbol of the 14-party alliance on Sunday.
“The 14-party alliance wants allocation of ‘Boat’ as symbol for its candidates. A list of parties in our alliance has been submitted to the EC,” Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Noufel told reporters at EC Bhaban.
He said, the 14-party letter informing EC about election symbol has been initiated in compliance with a directive of the commission.
On Friday last, the EC had issued letters to registered political parties asking for written consent in contesting as alliance members in the 11th Parliamentary election.
The three-day deadline for submission of written consent to EC over contesting under alliance ended yesterday.
The 11th Parliamentary election is scheduled to be held on December 23.
Parties in AL led alliance are Bangladesh Workers Party, JSD, Ganatantri Party, two fractions of Jatiya Party (Ershad and Monju), Communist Party, Gaono Azadi League, NAP (Mozaffar), Ganotantrik Mozdur Party and BSD (Reja).
