13th Jatra Festival ongoing at Shilpakala Academy

The 13th Jatra Utsab 2021 is being held at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy
in the capital’s Segunbagicha area. The seven-day festival, organised by Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) for the implementation of Jatrashilpo Development Policy 2012 and for the registration of promising Jatra troupes, was inaugurated
at the Studio Theatre Hall of
BSA on December 7.
On the opening day, Reba Opera from Barishal staged Gunai Bibi, Trishul Natyasampraday from Pirojpur staged Kalir Bhagaban Aschhe and Dhanshiri Jatra Unit from Jhalokathi staged Rokto Diye Kena Swadhinata. Three members from Jatrashilpo Development Committee will be present each day to assess the Jatra productions. Following which, the deserving troupes will be able to register themselves. The members of the committee consist of Nasiruddin Yousuff, Mamunur Rashid, Ramendu Majumdar, Jyotsna Biswas, Afsana Karim, Taposh Sarkar, Milon
Kanti De, Israfeel Shaheen, Aminur Rahman Sultan, Tapan Bagchi, Aminul Islam, Yusuf Hassan Arko and Tamanna Haque Sigma. Besides, representatives from Home
Affairs Ministry, Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Ministry, Education Ministry, Finance Ministry and Cultural Affairs Ministry
will be present at the event.
BSA has been organising the festival since 2012. The BSA has registered 130 jatra troupes in the past 12 Jatra festivals and cancelled the registrations of 12 Jatra troupes on various allegations. The 13th Jatra festival is featuring 38 jatra productions by 38 Jatra troupes from across the country. The troupes will stage 38 Jatra
productions under the management of the BSA’s Drama and Film Department from 2:00pm to 8:30pm. The festival will end on December
13, said the organisers.
