Properties worth Tk 1 cr loss: 13 shops gutted in Agoiljhara

Two separate incidents of devastating fire gutted 13 shops and business enterprises at town bazaar and Baro Paikya Dushmi Bazaar under Agoiljhara upazila of Barisal district on early Saturday.
At least 8 people including one fireman were injured and properties worth Tk 1 core were damaged by these two fire-accidents, told Sajjad Hossain, Agoiljhara police station officer in charge.
The damaged shops and business enterprises included cotton and cement godown, shops of allopathic and homeopathic medicine, grocery, stationary, cloth and remade garments, tailoring, bedding, cosmetics etc., the police official added.
Fire service units from Gournadi and Wajirpur upazila stations rushed to the spots controlled the flame on Saturday early morning with the help of local people, said Devi Chanda, upazila nirbahi officer of Agoiljhara.
Fire service sources blamed electrical short circuits for instigating the fire in both incidents, said Golam Murtaza Khan, Agoiljhara upazila chairman.
Abul Hasanat Abdullah, local lawmaker and district AL president, Advocal Talukdar Md. Yunus, local resident, lawmaker and district AL secretary, Advocate Balaram Poddar, Director Agranee Bank, upazila chairman, nirbahi and police officials, visited the damaged properties ad areas on Saturday morning.
They assured to extend all shorts of help for rehabilitations of the affected businessmen after immediate assessments of damages.
