13 killed in road accidents

Staff Reporter :At least 13 people were killed and 40 others injured in separate road accidents across the country on Friday. The districts are: Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Kushtia, Mymensingh, Bogra and Dhaka city.Six persons, including a child, were killed and 15 others seriously injured at Lohagora Upazila beside the Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar highway on Friday afternoon. Highway police of Dohazari police camp said, “Two buses collided head-on at Chunt Khandigirpar resulting the death of three passengers on the spot. The accident took place when a Chittagong bound Shah Amin Paribahan bus collided with a Cox’s Bazar bound Mahfuza Paribahan bus. Several passengers were seriously injured and were admitted to Lohagora Upazila Health Complex where the on duty doctors declared  death three of them. The identity of the deceased, including a six months old baby, could not be known immediately, said the police. Two persons were killed and four others injured at Tarakanda in Mymensingh district when a truck rammed into a auto-rickshaw on Friday afternoon. The injured were rushed to Fulpur Upazila Health Complex. The identity of the deceased was not known instantly. Two persons were killed and 20 others injured at Doulatpur Upazila in Kushtia when a passenger bus hit a tree after the driver lost control over the steering at 10:00 am. The deceased were identified as Babu Mia, helper of the bus, and one Palash from Pabna. The accident occurred when a Al Amin Paribahan bus while trying to overtake a Nosimon, a local made engine run vehicle, at Koipal hit a nearby tree. The helper of the bus and a passenger died on the spot. The Fire Service rescued team took the injured to the nearby health complex. Afterwards, they were taken to Kushtia Medical College Hospital. At least 15 people were seriously injured when a passenger bus fell into a nearby ditch at Mathpara of Dhunot in Sherpur district on Friday at 10:am. The injured were identified as Rita Khatun,25, her son Rifat Hossain,8, from Rangamati village, Maznu Mia, 45, from Ulurchapar, Nipu Kumar,30, from Bilkajuli village, Ataur Rahman Bablu, 65, from Kantanagar, Mahbub Hossain,25, from Banshpata village, Suvash Chandra,70, from Choubaria of Sherpur, Nurul Islam,55, and his son Sabbir Ahmed,20, from Bagra village, Abul Kalam Azad, 58, a school teacher from Chakpota village and Sathi Khatun,24, from Kusumbi village. They all were brought to Bogra Shahid Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital. A garment worker died in a road accident in the Abdullahpur-Baipail area on Friday morning. Deceased Hasna Begum worked at a Readymade Garment in the Kuturia areas. She was standing in front of Natural Garment at Tongibari of Ashulia at 10:00 am. Just then, a cattle loaded truck ran over her. Her child Ashamoni,8, was seriously injured. Ashamoni was released after treatment. The truck was seized and a case has been filed in this regard. An unknown person was killed in a road accident near the Banani flyover in the Dhaka city in the early morning on Friday. The identity of the deceased was not known immediately. The body was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for post mortem.
