13 goats killed by dogs in Bhangura

At least 13 goats have died after being bitten by dogs in Bhangura upazila of Pabna. The incident took place in Nurnagar-Diarpara village of Ashtamanisha union of the upazila. The Department of Animal Resources has confirmed the veracity of the news. On Friday (June 24) morning, a group of dogs attacked two goats belonging to a farmer named Azgar Ali of the village and cut off their ears.
Shahin Alam and Shamim Ahmed, farmers of Nurnagar-Diarpara village, said that when they let their goats graze in the field, some dogs bit them repeatedly. Later the goats died in agony. Local UP member Shafiqul Islam said 13 goats had died in the village in a few days due to dog bites. The estimated value is one and a half lakh taka.
UP Chairman Sultana Jahan Bakul said, “There are 10/12 mad dogs in the area. That goats have died due to rabies deasease.” He demanded that all the goats in the area be given rabies in vaccine.
UNO Mohammad Nahid Hasan Khan said the incident was first reported to him by the UP chairman. He also said the Animal Resources Officer has been instructed to take immediate action.
Upazila Animal Resources Officer (Acting) Dr. Shamima Akhter admitted the death of 13 goats and said that some goats who were bitten by a dog were treated at the spot on Thursday. However, claiming that the dogs are not crazy, he said that they are hunting dogs. He also said that rabies in vaccine is not officially provided. So he advised to keep the goats around the house instead of riding them in the field.
