Thirteen educational institutions, including a college, remained shut for the last one and a half months in Teknaf and Ukhia upazilas as army men have set up camps in those institutions to facilitate Rohingya rehabilitation.
All the classes and examinations remained suspended in 11 high schools, a college and a madrassa, hampering the academic activities of the institutions, said district education officials.
Osman Goni, an official at District Primary Education Directorate, said the pressure of Rohingya people is hampering the regular educational activities in the area.
Principal of Ukhiya Degree College Fazlul Karim said, “Army members have been staying not only in our classrooms but also on the college ground.”
More than 5,00,000 Rohingya people have fled their homes in Myanmar and sought refuge in Cox’s Bazar since the military crackdown in Rakhain State of Myanmar and more are still joining them.
Bangladesh is providing the Rohingyas with temporary shelter at Kutupalong and Balukhali camps where army have been deployed to ensure proper distribution of aid among the forcibly displaced people.
