Some 125 Bangladeshi passengers were not allowed to disembark from a Qatar Airways flight at Italy’s Fiumicino Airport over concerns of spreading coronavirus.
Authorities said that the Bangladeshi passengers will have to leave on the same plane as it heads back to Doha, reports Italian newspaper Virgilio.
The decision of the authorities comes after the order to block all direct flights from Bangladesh by Italian health ministry.
The same fate happened to the passengers of another flight with people from Bangladesh on board that landed at Malpensa.
The Qatar Airways flight arrived at Fiumicino airport through Pakistan-Qatar-Rome route; it had 205 passengers on board, but the 125 people with Bengali passports were retained and they will be sent back in the same flight and not let to disembark.
The other passengers of other nationalities, including 15 Italians, are undergoing testing at Terminal 5 of the airport and will be placed in home quarantine.
“30 tests have already been carried out, as they are potential contact cases”, said Alessio D’Amato, Councilor for Health for Italy’s Lazio region.
“In addition, assistance has been provided for a pregnant Bangladeshi woman who will be transferred to the Gemelli Polyclinic. Health care will never fail for those who need it,” he added.
