1248 sued for Gabtoli clash

Police sued around 1200 unidentified people on Thursday for arson attacks and vandalism in the city’s Gabtoli area on Tuesday night and Wednesday. Another 48 were identified.
At least three cases were filed in connection with the arson attacks and vandalism with the Darussalam Police Station in the city.
“Police filed two cases while an affected person filed another case in this connection,” Selimuzzaman, Officer-in-Charge, Darussalam Police Station said.  
Sub-inspector Naushed of Darussalam Police Station said three separate cases were filed in connection with Wednesday’s clash between law enforcers and transport workers that left a bus driver dead at Gabtoli Bus Terminal in the city.
Besides, Sub-Inspector Jubayer filed a case against some unidentified people under the Special Powers Act.
Ferdousi, a resident of Gabtoli area, also filed a case accusing 48 identified and 1000-1200 unidentified people for threatening and beating up people. Shahinur Prodhan alias Shah Alam, 38, a driver of ‘Baishakhi Paribahan’, who suffered injuries in a clash between transport workers and law enforcers in Gabtoli area, died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Wednesday.
Several transport workers, including Shah Alam, were injured in the clash with police and members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) at Gabtoli Bus Terminal on Wednesday morning.
