A 12-year-old girl was found dead on the banks of the Kumar River near her residence in Hatsrikol village of Sreepur upazila on Friday.
The deceased was identified as Razia Khatun, daughter of Mikhiz Sheikh of the village and a Class VI student of Hatsrikol Secondary School.
Police suspect the girl had been murdered over an alleged love affair as she was found with her throat slit.
Asmat Ali Sheikh, grandfather of the deceased, said that Razia went missing around 3 pm on Thursday. “Her body was found on the banks of the river around 11 am on Friday.”
Officer-in-charge of Sreepur Police Station Sukdev said that the girl had been brutally murdered. “Efforts are on to nab the killer.”
A case has been lodged at the Sreepur police station in this regard. “The body has been sent to the Magura hospital morgue for an autopsy,” the OC added.
