At least 12 people were killed in separate road accidents in Habiganj and Chittagong on Friday.
A collision involving a bus, a microbus and a motorcycle on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway at Habiganj’s Bahubal at around 4pm killed four people on the spot, police said.
Two others succumbed to their injuries at the Bahubal Upazila Health Complex, while another died on the way to a Sylhet hospital, Bahubal Police Station OC Ohidur Rahman said.
Three others were undergoing treatment at the health complex.
The identities of the deceased could not be immediately known. Meanwhile, another man was killed and two others injured when a truck hit an autorickshaw at Habiganj’s Lakhai Upazila on Friday morning.
In a separate incident, a head-on collision between a bus and a covered van in Chittagong’s Sitakunda killed four people and injured eight others. Three people were killed on the spot when mishap occurred around 7am on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway and disrupted traffic on the busy road for 20 minutes.
One of the injured died at a hospital. The rest were admitted to the Chittagong Medical College and Hospital and Sitakunda Upazila Health Complex. Police identified the victims as bus driver Abul Kashem, 28, van driver Obaidul Haque Pramanik, 30, and bus passengers Jarina Begum, 52, and Nazmul Hassan, 24.
