Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and DB police arrested at least 12 persons with huge Phensedyl syrup from the city’s two separate drive on Saturday.
At Savar, RAB detained seven people alongwith Phensedyl syrup and arms from Savar, on the outskirts of Dhaka, on Saturday morning.
The accused are Nasirul Islam, 36, Shariful Islam, 37, Abdul Kaiyum, 33, Sairon Ali, 38, Sahabur Islam, 22, Abu Sayem, 32, and Shamim Reza, 22. All are residents of Chapainawabganj district.
There are a number of cases against them filed with different police stations, including arms and drugs, said law enforcers.
AB-4 Senior Assistant Superintendent of police Mohammad Sajedul Islam said, a team of the elite force conducted a drive in front of Momtaz Filling Station in Aminbazar area in the morning and detained them with 1,562 bottles of Phensedyl syrup, a foreign pistol, one-shooter gun, magazine, six mobile phone sets and Tk 8,700 in cash
Meanwhile, Detective Branch of Police (DB) arrested at least five persons with 200 bottles of Phensedyl syrup from the city’s Purano Polton area on Friday night.
The detained are identified as Arif Hossain, 32, Mahidul Islam,25, Mohammad Jalal,40 and Najim Uddin,25.
Mohammad Mohiuddin, Inspector of DB west zone confirmed the matter to the media.
