12 get life-term for killing BCL worker in Bagerhat

Mizanur Rahman Khan, District and Session Judge of Bagerhat, in a verdict delivered on Mondy, convicted 12 persons and sentenced them to suffer rigorous imprisonment for life and to pay a fine of Tk.10 thousand each in default to suffer another rigorous imprisonment for one year more on the charge of killing Arif Hasan alias Raju, a Chhatra League worker of Bagerhat .
Accused persons were, however, acquitted of the charge for want of sufficient evidences. At the time of the delivery of the judgment the convicted persons were present in the court. The convicted persons are Abdur Razzal Shaikh, Hossain Shaikh, Lovlu Shaikh, Nazrul Shaikh, Abdus Sattar Shaikh, Shaikh Faruk, Shawkat Shaikh, Nuru Shaikh, Kamrul Shaikh, Ziarul Shaikh, Abdul Kader Shaikh and Tipu Shaikh.
Deceased Raju Shaikh was the son of one Shaikh Nur Islam of village Jatrapur under Sadar Upazila in Bagerhat district.
The prosecution story, in short, is that the accused persons killed Raju out of internal chaos prevailing among them. On September 4 in the after noon in the year 2006 Raju was going to else where from his resident and when he reached in front of the house of one Lutfar Fakir of Jatrapur area the accused persons stopped him according to a preplanned way, took him to an adjacent betel-nut garden where they beat him hammers mercilessly and strangulated him to death.
In this connection father Shaikh Nur Islam registered a murder case with Bagerhat Sadar PS against 12 persons as the plaintiff on the same day.
